In the run up to A celebration of Cuban music at The Jazz Cafe ft. Diáspora12-piece band on 30th October, we're delighted to confirm lead vocalist Rea Qunta.
Many of you will remember Rea's exquisite, soulful performance in July and this month she arrives fresh from the states to wow audiences again with her powerful delivery of Diáspora's original material featured on upcoming album.
Rea Qunta is a natural singer-songwriter. Ever since appearing in a music video at three and recording her first song at six, Rea has performed everything from reggae and 60s / 70s soul and motown to jazz and Latin. "I listen to a wide variety of music and therefore I feel this is reflected through the music I create. I feel the music transcends genre, as it is what is in the heart that matters. I like to see each song as a canvas on which to paint musical ideas."
Rea's vocal style branches everything from jazz, progressive rock, funk and romantic to Celtic folk, Latin, pop and minimalism. Rea won an international songwriting competition in 2005 and last year released a solo album "8 Hours" to great acclaim. "I really believe that music can make the world go round, and that special song or piece has the power to inspire, communicate and translate what otherwise cannot be said in simple words. I feel we have a responsiblity as artists to keep filling the world with light, hope and encourage others to keep creating a better world."
