In the run up to A celebration of Cuban music at The Jazz Cafe featuring Diáspora 12-piece band on 4th September, we're running an artist focus on the players joining us for the night.
This month, we are very happy to welcome back lead vocalist Alejandro who has sung in Diáspora for the last 3 years. Alejandro is a singer, actor and theatre artist based in London, well known for his role as writer of Hispanic Breakdown's The Copla Musical, seen at Hoxton Hall, the Roundhouse, and the Collisions Festival (London). He directs in educational settings such as the Dreamarts DreamArts Gala at the West End’s Fortune Theatre, or the Anglia Ruskin University production of In the Heights (musical), after his professional collaboration with the London production shown at the Kings Cross Theatre. Credits as a choreographer include Nutcracker The Musical at Pleasance Theatre, and the opera The Merry Widow seen at Wilton's Music Hall. He has also been part of the creative team in Journey Of Love (Sadler's Wells), Winter's Tale (Royal Opera House Covent Garden) and the TV sitcom Episodes (BBC), and he has collaborated with The Royal Ballet since 2012.
September's performance will see Alejandro delivering the lead lines on a couple of songs from Diáspora's upcoming album, for which he sang the lead vocals.
